RECOMMENDED: The Best Excursions in Tenerife.

The time it takes to get from your landing airport to your destination varies mostly due to transfer availability and budget, in this blog post I try to cover both, I hope it helps you in some way! If your journey begins at Tenerife South Airport and your destination is the beautiful Playa de las Americas, fret not! I’ve compiled a guide to help you navigate the various transportation options, ensuring a smooth transition from the airport to Playa de las Americas which is 17km (11 miles) away.

1. Taxis:

Taxis are readily available at Tenerife South Airport, offering a convenient and hassle-free way to get to Las Américas. The journey takes approximately 20-25 minutes, and the cost may vary depending on the time of day and specific location in Las Américas. Be sure to confirm the fare with the driver before starting your journey, in our experience, the price is around 30 – 40 euros. Then, after checking in, the search begins for the best things to do in Tenerife.

2. Airport Shuttles:

Several airport shuttle services operate at Tenerife South Airport, providing shared rides to popular destinations, including Las Américas. These services are a cost-effective option, between 10-15 euros and can be pre-booked or arranged upon arrival. For a 5* airport shuttle service that cannot be beaten for price and efficiency we recommend Suntransfers, they are ABTA bonded and have excellent UK TrustPilot reviews.

3. Public Buses:

Tenerife has an efficient public bus network, and you can take advantage of a bus services to reach Las Américas. For this journey the bus company TITSA (Transportes Interurbanos de Tenerife) operates several routes/lines. The bus lines to Las Américas are 40/343 and the late night (after 10pm)/early morning line is 711, all of them cost around 4 euros for a one way journey . 4. Rental Cars:

For the freedom to explore Tenerife at your own pace, renting a car is an excellent option. Although most of the rental agencies are conveniently located at the airport some will deliver the car to your Hotel if you prefer, we recommend autoreisen, cicar and sanasty because they have a no deposit policy which we like! The drive to Costa Adeje is quite straightforward along the main TF1 (South) and the cars cost between 20 -30 euros per day to hire. Ensure you’re familiar with local traffic rules and have a valid driver’s license before hitting the road.  If you are looking to find the cheapest available car hire whilst you’re in Tenerife we have teamed up with Discover Cars to compare rental prices, we always use them to find the best prices.

You can book these services in advance, and a driver will meet you at the airport to take you directly to your destination. This option is convenient for larger groups or those seeking a more comfortable journey. We always recommend Suntransfers for all private transfers, they are probably the most used transfer company on the island and they’ve never let us down. Viva transfers are also quite popular.
