The history of the Del Monte Forest dates back to the late 1800s, when the land was purchased by the Pacific Improvement Company. The company had a vision of creating a luxurious resort destination that would attract wealthy travellers from all over the country. They began by planting over 200,000 Monterey Pine trees, transforming the barren landscape into a lush forest. The Del Monte Forest covers an area of around 5,000 acres and is situated on the Monterey Peninsula. It is a mix of natural vegetation and manicured gardens, creating a unique and picturesque landscape. The forest is primarily dominated by the famous trees, which are native to the area and can grow up to 100 feet tall!

One of the most popular spots is the Spanish Bay Beach, a secluded cove with golden sands and crystal clear waters, perfect for a peaceful picnic or a romantic sunset stroll. Visitors can spot deer, foxes, bobcats, and even the occasional mountain lion roaming through the forest. If you have time a visit to Carmel Valley is also high recommended!

In addition to its natural beauty and recreational activities, the Del Monte Forest also has a rich history and cultural significance. It was once home to the Rumsen Ohlone Native American tribe, and evidence of their presence can still be found in the forest. Today, visitors can learn more about the tribe and their way of life at the Rumsen Ohlone Re-creation Village, a living history museum located in the forest.
